Watching the Ganga Aarti from a cruise is a genuinely different experience from watching it from the ghat steps - you get an unobstructed, water-level view instead of standing shoulder to shoulder in a crowd that starts gathering a good hour before the lamps are lit. This guide covers what to expect and how to plan the booking.

Where cruises position for the Aarti

Cruises for the Aarti slot are generally anchored a short distance off Dashashwamedh Ghat, the main ghat where the ceremony is performed nightly. Depending on river traffic and water level on a given day, cruises may position slightly further along, off Rajendra Prasad Ghat or Meer Ghat, while still keeping a clear line of sight to the ceremony.

Timing

The Aarti itself typically runs 45 minutes to an hour, starting close to sunset - so the exact start time shifts through the year, generally landing somewhere between 6:00 PM and 7:15 PM depending on the season. We recommend arriving at your reporting ghat around 30 minutes before the expected start so boarding and positioning are unhurried.

Booking ahead

This is one of the most requested slots on the river, and cruises for it fill up in advance during the peak season from October through March, and on weekends year-round. Booking a day or two ahead is a reasonable rule of thumb; for a specific cruise category or a larger group, earlier is better.
